Every spring and summer the Caring Place youth plant their own garden under the guidance of a volunteer Master Gardener. Kids benefit from gardening in many ways. Nurturing plants from seed to harvest can lead to increased feelings of confidence, self-esteem and pride. These hands-on classes cover everything from composting and double-digging to beneficial and destructive insects and tomato-tasting. During harvest, the youth collect produce to be taken home. It is very rewarding to see these kids learn more about plants, insects, and animals, and even more rewarding to see them caring for the land, each other and themselves
