The “Miles of Smiles” dental mobile unit project is a partnership between Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network (LVHHN) and Capital BlueCross that was created to address the critical need for children’s dental care in the community.
The Caring Place Youth Development Center is just one of three organizations that the dental mobile unit provides dental treatments and services for.
With the Creation of the “Miles of Smiles” dental mobile unit, uninsured children are now able to get the proper dental education and treatment they need. The dental unit includes:
* Two fully-equipped treatment rooms
* A sterilization area
* A digital X-ray system and a wheelchair lift.
The Dental Mobile Unit teaches children good brushing and flossing techniques,
and the importance of healthy eating habits.
The unit is staffed with a full-time dentist, hygienist, dental assistant and a driver/medical clerk.
The dental unit services include prevention education to basic restorative services:
* Teeth Cleaning
* Fluoride treatments
* X-rays
* Cavity Treatments
* Simple Extractions
